"Charlie Fish and Brenda Dubie meet and fall in love in Chicago in the autumn of 1943, when he stops into the music store where Brenda, an aspiring organist, works. Their lives are soon upended when Charlie, a brilliant Harvard-educated mathematician, is drafted into the top secret Manhattan Project.
