Description
O'Reilly and Kelvin (both gastrointestinal oncology, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York City) offer a guide for patients, families, and friends to the scary disease and the treatment for it. The questions are unevenly distributed across sections on the basics of the disease, diagnosis and staging, treatment, managing the treatment, changes cancer brings, and emotional and social concerns. A sampling of specific questions shows Does pancreatic cancer run in families? What is chemotherapy or systemic therapy? How do I decide whether I should use one of the complementary or alternative therapies that my family or friends are recommending? What does is mean that my doctor has suggested I discontinue active treatment because my disease is now advanced and can no longer be controlled?
